International Travel Forum 2019 Post Show Recap
Details on the debut International Travel Agent Forum (ITAF) are emerging and by all accounts the event was a great success. Held at the Moon Palace Cancun, Mexico from October 14 – 17, the event offered an exceptional combination education, engagement and hands-on destination experiences for travel agents and suppliers alike.
ITAF was attended by over 300 North American travel agents, representing a cross-section of travel agency models and experience levels. At least a third of this audience was recognized as Travel Agent SELECT agents, a hosted program of hand-selected top-sellers, invited based on a stringent qualification process. The Travel Agent SELECT audience brought in a balance of owners, managers and top-performing front-line travel agents, representing a global book of business across various niche markets that collectively exceeded $80 Million in annual sales.
The Forum welcomed nearly 100 travel suppliers from around the globe, with vacation providers from various categories such as hoteliers, destinations, tour operators, attractions and destination management companies, along with business resources for the travel agent community. Suppliers enjoyed various travel agent engagement opportunities, including roundtable small-group presentations, one-to-one private meetings, a traditional tradeshow and an array of networking events.
Delegates took part in sessions with topics covering the latest technology, marketing, legalities and client-attracting websites. Travel agents also heard from key partners during dedicated product and destination sessions featuring the likes of Guatemala, The Hawaiian Islands, Israel, South Africa, Riviera River Cruises, Palace Resorts, Lomas Travel DMC and Weddings by Lomas. Top-level peer-to-peer discussion groups were also offered to those in the Travel Agent SELECT program.
Beyond traditional event offerings, ITAF offered travel sellers unique in-destination experiences with pre and post-FAM immersive itineraries including, Royalton Riviera Cancun; Sandos Cancun; El Dorado Casitas Royale; The Fives Azul Beach Resort; and the all-new Haven Riviera Cancun.
Produced by Travel Show Marketing Group (TravelSMG), an independent event organizer catering exclusively to the B2B travel agency community, ITAF’s premier sponsors included hosts Palace Resorts and Moon Palace Cancun; Lomas Travel DMC, the events official DMC partner. The event also featured a diverse line-up of key sponsors including Riviera River Cruises; Haven Riviera Cancun; Guatemala, Heart of the Mayan World; Israel Ministry of Tourism and The Hawaiian Islands.
ITAF joins TravelSMG’s robust portfolio of event offerings, including the Las Vegas Travel Agent Forum along with sister events Romance Travel Forum and Family Travel Advisor Forum, which are part of the company’s Specialty Travel Forums division. Details on the 2019 ITAF will be announced shortly.
