Agent Hub with Sharon Little
Having worked in the travel industry since the day I graduated college. I fell in love with the industry at a young age. I held various positions throughout those beginning years, and in 2001, I decided to start my own Travel agency as a home-based agent.
During this growing period, I gave my clients the best personalized service that I could. Whenever possible I would meet with local clients, send them hand written thank you cards, and make sure a welcome note was placed at their hotel upon arrival. I really tried to give white glove service regardless of their purchase.
It was invaluable to have returning clients book their future trips and refer their friends and family. I learned very early on that it costs much less to retain/keep a client than to continue finding new ones. Nothing replaces a high level of customer service, not even different marketing strategies or perfecting my destination skills. This is when I discovered the small island of Jamaica and how many weddings took place on the island and why. This was the game changer for my career and my company. I have now visited this island almost 30 times in 7 years.
Every time I visit Jamaica I learn and discover something new and different. My agency sells more destination weddings here on this island than any other company in North America. We are now a niche travel agency with Travel experts in the area of Romance Travel in Jamaica and Caribbean. We have been in the Top 3 Jamaica Tourism Bureau top sales agencies for 6 years in a row. We know every partner hotel and wedding package we sell. While hands-on experience paired with our exceptional customer service is what attracts new wedding couples to our agency, technology has played a huge part in scaling/growing it. In addition to the normal technology needs for every agency, I developed and created weddingoptimizer.com for hotels/resorts and the travel agent version weddingdaycalendar.com. We went from booking a few hundred weddings per year to thousands of weddings per year. To date we are still the only live availability wedding booking management tool in the world.
Travel Technology continues to improve and evolve. It doesn’t need to be complicated, it just needs to solve a problem or issue. As sellers of travel, it is not an option for you to not be embracing the new technology that is available in the market. If you don’t embrace travel technology and keep up with the latest trends and apps, you will become extinct. Those who do embrace travel technology will continue to grow and be more efficient, providing a better consumer experience overall and at the end of the day, if your customers are left with an inefficient experience, they will never come back to you in the future.
I’m looking forward to the Vegas agent Forum because I want to see and learn what is new in technology for my travel business. I enjoy networking and learning from my peers about what technology they are successfully using in their travel business and whether that could also work in mine.
Anything that can help me grow my business, become more efficient or improve our customer experience is exactly what I am looking for in Vegas. We want to be better, we want to grow, and we are always looking for ways to retain and grow our customer base. I believe that travel technology allows us to do this way more efficiently and cost effectively than any other available source.
